Trenton

Oct. 17-19- “The Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee” will be coming to Trenton for a full weekend of fun from 10:00am-5:00pm and Sunday from 10:00am-12:00pm. The General Lee will be part of the Hillbilly Woodstock-3 /Dukes of Hazzard Cruise. The event is a 324 mile cruise covering three states over nine days. The cruise will start in Trenton on the 17th. The Dade Chamber will be sponsoring the Cruise and other events in Trenton at Jenkins Park. Approximately 50+ cars will be on display including 2 used in the original Dukes of Hazzard TV series from 1979 to 1985, and also the car that jumped the town square in the 2005 Dukes of  Hazzard movie. Byron Cherry who played Coy Duke, Sunny Schroyer who played Enos, Don Pedro Colley who played Sheriff Little, actors Jerry Rushing and Don Schisler from the “Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” are among those that will be participating in the cruise. Also on hand will be one of the cruise's coordinators Wayne Wooten, a Trenton hometown boy who now lives in North Carolina. The Dade Cruisers will be participating in the weekend events along with the The Dodge Charger National Registry. Car and truck owners- brijg your vehicles!t to the park  for a “Show and Shine Cruise-in”. The events are Free of Charge for the weekend. Oct. 3- “Prehistoric Culutres of Little River Canyon” JSU’s Dr. Harry Holstein will fascinate you with stories from the Ice Age to DeSoto’s 16th century Spanish expedition. No fee. At the CCC pavilion, 7-8 pm

           

Oct 4- “Native American Pottery Workshop” Expert potter Tammy Beane will show how pottery was made on Lookout Mountain thousands of years ago. Make a pot of your own design- we’ll provide the clay, bone needles, and paddles. $10, and please register. At DeSoto’s picnic area,10-12, & 1-3.

Oct. 4- “Native American Tools and Weapons” National Park Service archaeologist Larry Beane will give a demonstration of how Native Americans utilized natural resources to hunt and gather food, to make weapons, to start fires, and more. No fee. At DeSoto’s picnic area.10-12.

Oct. 4- “Spaninsh Exploration of Northeast Alabama” JSU’s Dr. Harry Holstien will take you through the amazing adventures of the first European explorers and their search for the ancient town of Coosa. 7-8 pm, at the CCC Pavilion. No fee.

Oct. 10- “Birds of Alabama” Birdwatchers will share their vast knowledge of our feathered friends and will teach visitors the ABCs of bird identification. 7-8 pm, CCC Pavilion. No fee.
